QUA - LGBTQ Ukrainians in America and allies will gather in front of the White House on April 3, 3PM EST to call for protections for queer Ukrainians and investment in our safety. This includes protecting queer refugees who are able to make it to the US, long term investment in rebuilding LGBTQ+ communities, and a full economic and militaristic commitment to reclaiming all of Ukrainian territory. US Government Demands:
Temporary Protected Status for queer Ukrainians who are able to make it to the US Commitment to long term funding to help rebuild Ukraine, including LGBTQ+ spaces destroyed by the war Full economic sanctions and maximum military support for Ukraine until all Ukrainian lands are reclaimed
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is a queer issue. Putin’s violent and meaningless war has senselessly uprooted all Ukrainian lives. But for those who come from marginalized communities, it presents especially treacherous challenges as we are specifically targeted by Putin, forced from our safe spaces, and pushed into unpredictable refugee situations. Ukraine has made enormous progress on LGBTQ+ rights in recent years, however, as queer and other marginalized people around the world know, we face potential discrimination and danger when we enter into new and unknown surroundings.
Over the past several weeks, Americans and the world have come to be inspired by the resilience of the Ukrainian people. Now is the time to come and call for full support and investment in the resilience of queer Ukrainians.
We seek to assist Ukrainian LGBTQ + individuals living in the US and Canada to integrate, adapt, and productively contribute to American society.
